Why I’m Speaking Out Against Amazon’s Sale of Fake Autism Cures

Dear friends,

I’ve just published a new formal statement.

Amazon continues to sell and promote books that push dangerous “autism cures”; from bleach solutions to chelation therapies.

These are not harmless alternative treatments.

They are abusive practices that cause real physical and psychological harm to Autistic people, while reinforcing the idea that our existence is something to be eradicated.

I cannot remain silent. In this piece, I lay out:

• Why cure narratives are inseparable from abuse
• How Amazon’s algorithms and platforming make them complicit
• The real-world dangers of bleach, chelation, and detox “treatments”
• What must change to protect Autistic people from exploitation and harm

This is not just about Amazon. It’s about the wider ecosystem that profits from ableism and pseudoscience, and the urgent need for neurodivergent-competent approaches that honour our lives.
