The Double Empathy Divide As A Difference Of Reality

The Double Empathy problem (as proposed by Milton, 2012) presented a turning point in our understanding of Autistic empathy, and indeed the empathy divide between any discrete identity groups. It presents the perceived lack of empathy in Autistic people as a difference in fundamental experiences rather than a lack of emotional reciprocity for another's experience. In popular Autistic culture this has been used to describe communication barriers and interpersonal conflict, however I believe The Double Empathy Problem presents a deeper truth than simple communication or empathy.

I promise that the Double Empathy Problem presents an entirely different definition of reality for Autistic people.
